Work in ChatGPT Projects: A Context-Rich Workspace for Recurring Work

A single chat forgets; a Project doesn't. In two hours, set up your first ChatGPT Project — a dedicated workspace with its own instructions, files and memory — so recurring work starts in context instead of from scratch.

About this seminar

An ordinary chat is a blank slate: useful, but forgetful. The moment you have an ongoing strand of work — a client, a matter, a report you revisit — you want every conversation about it to start already knowing the background. That is what a Project does.

In this two-hour session you build your first Project around a real strand of your own work. You give it its own instructions, add the files it should draw on, and organise your related chats inside it. We look at how a Project’s memory is scoped to that workspace, so the context for one client or matter does not leak into another — a distinction that matters when confidentiality is part of the job.

We also place Projects alongside the other two tools you may have set up: simple personalisation that travels everywhere, and a Custom GPT for a repeated task. You leave knowing which container to reach for, and with at least one Project set up and working on your real material.

Projects are available across ChatGPT’s plans, including the free tier, with higher file allowances on the paid plans. This is the ChatGPT edition; the companion session does the equivalent — a grounded Notebook — in Microsoft Copilot.

You will learn to
  • Explain how a Project differs from a single chat and from a Custom GPT, and when to use each
  • Create a Project with its own instructions and uploaded files, and organise related chats inside it
  • Use project-scoped memory so context stays inside the right workspace and out of the others
  • Set up Projects for recurring strands of work — by client, matter or theme — and share where appropriate
Programme
  • 01Projects explained: a workspace that holds instructions, files and chats together
  • 02Project versus single chat versus Custom GPT — choosing the right container
  • 03Setting project instructions and adding reference files
  • 04Project-scoped memory: keeping each client or matter separate
  • 05Organising real work into Projects, and sharing a Project with colleagues
